Pop-up Seedling Shop with Victory Gardens Sunday May 12th, 11am - 2pm

This Mother's Day, Victory Gardens and Homesteader's Emporium partner for our first ever Pop-up Shop. Organic and East Van local veggie starts will be available for purchase from 11am-2pm. We'll have Lettuce, Kale, Chard, Cilantro, Parsley, Basil, Mustard Greens, Broccoli, Cauliflower, Cabbage, Onion, Summer and Winter Squash, Tomatoes, Peppers, Sunflowers, Marigold, Sweet Peas, Nasturtium and more! Kick Start your Garden Workshop - $5-10 Sunday May 12th, 11:00am - 1:00pm

If you've been waiting to start your garden, this is your chance to get jazzed. We'll be meeting for an hour to talk theory - basic garden planning, planting techniques, timing, and crop protection (row covers, etc) then applying what we learn to our new garden beds. We'll kick-start the garden by seeding, transplanting, applying organic fertilizer, and installing pea netting and a row cover. A great hands-on introduction to all the skill you'll use in setting up your home veggie plot. Victory Gardens will be on site from 11am-2pm selling seedlings for those of you who can't wait to get started at home (see above). $10 regular / $5 student & low income. Register here:

Awesome Organic Tomatos LITE edtion - $5-10 Monday May 13th, 6:30 - 8pm

Learn basic skills and tricks for successfully growing tomatoes in your backyard or balcony. When & how to transplant for strong root health, potting mix, pot sizing, staking, hardening off transplants, avoiding blight, and pruning to maximize yield! Host James Sztyler is an avid gardener who grows an unreasonable number of tomatoes in his Vancouver backyard. Cost is $10 / $5 student & low income. Register here:

Home Canning Basics - $35 Saturday May 18th, 1 - 4pm

Homesteading Mamas presents Explore the world of putting up food in jars! Make Jam with us and learn the basics of the water-bath canning method including food/kitchen prep, tools and techniques for safely completing projects at home. No experience is necessary. All materials and supplies are included and you will leave with inspiration and a jar of jam made during the workshop. $35. Register here:

Handmade Natural Soap - $35 Sunday May 19th, 11am - 1pm

Back by popular request, it's our hands-on class on making natural bar soap! We'll show you how to safely mix lye and blended oils to create beautiful, moisturizing, chemical-free bars. You'll learn the techniques that you can apply to vegan or animal-fat soaps, and we'll make a batch together as a class for you to take home. Register here:

Transylvanian Peasant Breads - $30 Sunday May 26th, 2 - 5pm

Join Florin Moldovan (formerly of Transylvanian Peasant Breads) for a hands-on introduction to artisan bread. Look, smell, and feel how pre-ferments like biga and poolish affect the texture of your dough and make a delicious, flavourful product. As we finish at 5pm, you'll go home with a batch of your own perfect dough to bake that evening or refrigerate for the following day. $30 includes ingredients and instruction - bring a large mixing bowl and a 2 qt tupperware or other container to take home your dough.
