Lye for Soap Making

Sorry, our web store is currently only open for workshop ticket purchases only. For all other purchases, please visit our clearance sale August 17-20.

NaOH - Sodium Hydroxide (Caustic Soda). 99% pure and suitable for making bar soaps. The primary impurities are sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) and water.

KOH - Potassium Hydroxide (Caustic Potash). 90% pure and suitable for liquid soaps or biodiesel. The primary "impurity" is water, as KOH rapidly sucks water from the air.

Lye is a necessary soap making ingredient used in the production of natural cold process and hot process bar soaps, and also widely used as a pH buffer in cosmetics. Since lye can be irritating and caustic to the skin, proper care and caution should be taken when using it. ie: use in a properly ventilated area wearing gloves, eye protection, and appropriate clothing. Due to its dangerous goods classification, lye cannot be shipped via Canada Post and as such will be shipped by one of the Courier companies that we deal with.

Unfortunately we are not able to ship lye out of the country.

Please weigh lye before use, as humidity levels can affect the final weight.
